The AKC has registered more Labs during the last few years than any other breed. This has caused an increase in the number of indiscriminate breedings from puppy mills and backyard breeders. Unfortunately, so many of the puppies from these breedings end up unwanted, neglected or in a shelter.

We have coordinated the Labrador Rescue program here in Las Vegas since 1994. Over the years, we have placed many unwanted Labs into good homes. Most of the placements have been through telephone referrals, although sometimes we have picked up the dogs and kept them with us until we have found them a home. The program is very successful. There is a need for more breed rescue programs. Why not start a rescue program for your breed in your area. We understand you may not be able to take unwanted dogs into your home, but it can all be done by telephone. A little of your time is all it takes. You can't resolve the monumental task of saving all unwanted dogs, but if you can save one life every now and then, you have accomplished a lot.
